(See General Instructin of the Roman Missal, # 336 and the Order of Christian Funerals # 178). The Funeral liturgy outside Mass may be used when the funeral mass is not permitted. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles there are four holy days of obligation: Assumption (August 15), All Saints (November 1), Immaculate Conception (December 8), and Christmas (December 25). When August 15 of November 1 fall on a Saturday or a Monday, the holy day is no longer considered a solemnity of obligation and the Funeral Mass may be celebrated.
